The Bridge Load Rating Program serves local Michigan agencies and their consultants with the support and training necessary to ensure success in meeting the requirements of the bridge load rating program. This support is offered through training, technical support for AASHTOWare Bridge RatingTM software, and engineering technical assistance. AASHTOWare Bridge Rating is available to local agencies and their consultants free of charge (courtesy of MDOT) for use on Michigan bridges.
There were approximately 4,000 local bridges in Michigan that required load rating or review of existing ratings. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) created a prioritization schedule that organized bridges that required load rating into three tiers, which were then load rated in 2012, 2014, and 2016. Presently, Michigan's local road-owning agencies maintain these load ratings following routine or scheduled bridge inspections.
MDOT contracted the Center for Technology & Training to establish the Bridge Load Rating Program. The program provides training and support to help Michigan local agencies and their consultants evaluate their bridges.
